Big Sean apologized for canceling promotional events for his book release before revealing his own family was affected by the Los Angeles wildfires.
The Detroit native made the announcement in a video he posted on Monday, January 20. In the video, he gave an update to his fans about the release of his new book "Go Higher: Five Practices for Purpose, Success, and Inner Peace." His self-help book for maintaining mental wellness was released on time, but he had to cancel book signings and press events after his family's home caught fire in Los Angeles.
"I had to cancel and reschedule some of the events because my family's house caught on fire and I couldn't commit to anything except that," Sean said. "It's just been crazy times but I am a believer of divine timing and being of service and I do feel like this book is a book of service meaning that people who may feel stuck or want to manifest something or just feel off. I feel like this is a book that can point you in the right direction and help build a strong foundation."
Later, Sean also announced that all the proceeds from now until the end of February will be donated to the victims of the wildfires. He plans to help the Black families who are in dire need. It's the same cause Flavor Flav and other artists have been promoting ever since the fires broke out in Los Angeles County a couple of weeks ago. His girlfriend Jhené Aiko also lost her home in the fires earlier this month. She shared footage of the remains of her home and recently pledged to help provide relief to first responders through her wellness brand, Jhenetics.
