Sean Kingston's lawyers have asked a judge to allow the artist to serve his sentence at home instead of a prison cell.
According to a report Complex published on Tuesday, August 12, attorneys for the Florida artist made their argument for house arrest ahead of Kingston's sentencing. They cited previous cases that they believe set a precedent for their request. They also argued that “in many instances, home confinement or house arrest is, in itself, a substantial punishment” for the offenses Kingston was convicted of. Kingston and his mother, Janice Turner, were both convicted of four counts of wire fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud.
During their trial in March, prosecutors alleged the mother-son duo conned multiple luxury brands into giving them cars, jewelry, entertainment systems and more items totaling more than $1 million. The "Beautiful Girls" singer's lawyers claim most of the businesses have been paid in full, which he thinks will make a difference in the judge's upcoming sentence.
“Most of the victims were paid back and the restitution owed is minimal in comparison to the loss for which Mr. Anderson is being held responsible,” lawyers wrote
Turner was sentenced to five years in prison. Kingston was originally set to be sentenced in July; however, his hearing was moved to August 15.
