KOBE BRYANT: LL Nixed His Gangsta Record

TeeRoy's 2 Cents:

  • It's probably best that Kobe took L's advice on this one.
  • If that tape exists, it's going to leak sometime -- probably soon.
  • Let's not ruin the good memories by thinking about Kobe dropping F-bombs instead of dishing dimes.
  • Kobe grew up in a rich Philly suburb. He was never gangsta.
Los Angeles Lakers v Phoenix Suns

Kobe Bryant had a rep as one of the NBA's good guys, but he thought about surprising fans by showing another side as a gangsta rapper -- until LL Cool J stepped in.

Cool James recalls that Mamba, who had a quick trip into hip-hop with the Tyra Banks-featuring "K.O.B.E.," set up a private listening session -- and got some serious advice.

L tells Entertainment Tonight, "He played me this album, this gangsta rap album and I was like, ‘Kobe,’ I said, ‘Come on, dog. That’s not what you need to be doing.’ We’re sitting in a parking lot. I was confused, I was sitting there like, ‘What are we doing? You got endorsements, what are you doing?’ It had to be the funniest moment of my life, listening to him do gangsta rap."
