- Policing is a stressful and dangerous job, but that's still no excuse for such behavior.
Tyre Nichols, whose death due to a violent beating at the hands of police officers in Memphis has led to outrage, was laid to rest on Wednesday.
Vice President Kamala Harris and Reverend Al Sharpton spoke at his funeral, calling for police reform in wake of the incident that led to Nichols' death and five officers being fired and charged with second-degree murder.
Speaking at the Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church, Harris praised Nichols' mother and stepfather for their "strength, courage and grace" and noted the country and President Biden were mourning with them.
She also called on lawmakers to take action on police reform measures.
Also speaking at the funeral was noted civil right attorney Ben Crump, who is representing Nichols' family as well as family members of George Floyd, Botham Jean, Breonna Taylor and Eric Garner, whose deaths also came at the hands of police and made national news. (CBS News)
